Living Life With Gratitude

Hello My Loves

Do you ever have one of those mornings where you wake up and it seems that everything that can go wrong, goes wrong? I had one of those mornings this morning.  I woke up after a poor nights sleep (we have a newborn!), the minute the baby looked at me he started roaring crying (I know I don't look my best in the mornings pre-make up, but come on! lol) , I stubbed my toe as I got out of bed, there was no milk for my breakfast....and I just felt like I had the staring role in some Greek tragedy, such was my terrible life.

As I looked out the kitchen window, I thought 'No, this is just not the way my day is going to go.  I am turning this day around right now into a great one'.  I remembered the recent atrocities in Paris and thought what a blessed life I lead.  I realized how grateful I am to wake up in a warm safe bed, with my healthy baby beside me, my husband having safely arrived at work that morning and all the other basic things I have to be grateful for.  Not to even think of all the extra's in our lives.

I don't want this blog post to be a sermon,  but I just want to share with you that being grateful on a daily basis is something that has made my life a much happier one.  I am a deeply spiritual person and Louise Hay is someone whose outlook on life has made me look at life so much more positively.  She talks about life along the lines of The Secret, that your thoughts and feelings create your reality.  It can be hard to get my head around it at times and live positively, but I try!

Every day for two years now, I have a daily gratitude journal going with my closest friend, who lives in Paris.  We obviously do not see each other that often, as we live in different countries, but we each text each other three things we are grateful for each morning.  I can honestly say it has changed my life.  So much has good things have flowed into my life since I started each day with gratitude.

I am happier, I got the job I wanted, I married a great man, we are building our home and have a healthy happy baby together.  I have suffered from anxiety in the past and it has really lessened since doing my gratitude too.  It has made me realise that what I perceive to me a 'bad thing' happening to me can actually be a positive lesson in disguise.  All these 'bad things' make us the people we are as we persevere through them and triumph them.

I just wanted to share with you all something that has made me a much happier person and something that I can turn to in comfort when horrible events like Paris occur and the world seems a terrible scary place.  I challenge you to try it for a month, write down three things every morning that you are grateful for, and after one month see if it has made any difference to your happiness and life. I would be so interested to know the outcome!

Love, Mini

  4. I wish more choose a positive outlook towards life like you, Mini...the world definitely needs it. I'm one of those annoying people who dwells in the negatives and would let the little stuff ruin my whole day. Believe it or not, Paris incident triggered something in me, I'm not determined to not take things for granted anymore, treasure each day and make the best of every moment.

  5. What a beautiful post to read, dear. It's completely fine to express your feelings here and I appreciate that a lot as a reader. I think we all felt affected in some way by what happened in Paris. I felt lucky to be alive, too and with the people I love. You're sending a lovely message today and it's so inspiring to see that you can transform a negative feeling into something positive.
Have a wonderful week ahead, dear.

  6. Thank you for sharing your positivity and outlook on gratitude. I used to be the sort who would let bad things ruin my day but once I learned to get past it and take the time to reflect on all the things I'm grateful for, it's helped me to be much happier. Paris was definitely another wakeup call. I was in NYC during 9/11 and an event like that can really change you. Cheers to gratitude!

  11. I absolutely love this post. Starting the day texting your friend with what you're grateful for is such a lovely way to remind yourself daily just how well you have it. It's so easy to dwell on the little things that are getting us down that we forget about all the reasons we should be smiling!
