Recommended Books

Hello My Loves

I am a total book addict. I love reading so much. I find it transports me to another world completely that I get totally immersed in for a few hours.  I love reading anything from thrillers to historical books, romance to spirituality.  I am very open minded when it comes to books and will give most things a try!

I buy all my books second hand from Amazon.  The city I live in doesn't have many second hand bookshops, so Amazon is great for cheaper prices. If I buy second hand off Amazon, then I don't have to sell them on and I want a huge book shelf as part of the home we are currently building. Books can be so expensive, second hand is definitely the only way I can feed my habit!

I choose books by looking up the best sellers list on Amazon in whatever genre I fancy and just go from there.
(This post is not sponsored by Amazon, I just love buying my books from there).

So here are the recent reads that I recommend (do you like my alliteration?!)

1. I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes

This is a fantastic thriller about a man who spend his life as an undercover agent. Its very James Bond but in a less glamorous way. Great twists and turns at every page. I could not put this one down.

2. My Stroke of Insight by Jill Bolte Taylor

A number one Best Seller, this is a hugely insightful book into what happens in the brain during and after a stroke written from a survivors perspective.  What I really loved about this book is how Jill's life changed for the positive because of the stroke.  Jill saw life as more beautiful and she came to realize how important it is for us to surround ourselves with our loved ones and avoid the energy vampires. The second half of this book contains some of the most inspiring chapters I have ever read.

3. A Most Haunted House by G.L. Davies

I love scary movies and books. Not the gory slasher kind, but the haunted, ghosts and poltergeists kind.  Why? Because I adore getting terrified apparently! This is a really short book, I read it in a day and I am sure most people would too.  It is literally as the title says, about a haunted house. Its scary, its spooky and it seems very genuine. I may have slept with the hall light on after reading... (don't judge lol!)

Do you have any recommended reads for me? I would love to hear them.

  2. These all sound like great reads. I Am Pilgrim in particular seems like one of those riveting ones I enjoy and I'll have to put it on my library list. I've been terrible about reading this summer so I can't make any recs right now.

To answer your question, I have a Clarisonic Mia and I would recommend it. You will be amazed by how much cleaner/clearer your skin is when using one. I only use it 2 - 3x a week now cause it can be drying on my skin. Hope that helps.

  4. The last book I finished was A Heart of a Woman by Maya Angelou so I would recommend that one. These books look great too! I also buy second hand books but I also have membership in 3 libraries...I like to buy a book when I read it and I know that I will reread it.

  5. All of them sound really interesting! I'd love to read the first one, I am Pilgrim cause it sounds like the kind of books I'd devour in days -detective novels, crime novels, spy novels, you name it, I love it ;) "My stroke of Insight" should be great, too as the subject is interesting and the take on it can be very touching (without being cheesy, of course). Oh, an someone said scary? I'm in!! Haha, your final recommendation truly sounds better than many of the horror movies I've seen lately ;) speaking of that, are you looking forward to Halloween too? ;)

  6. I am a HUGE fan of anything horror, let it be movies or books so A Most Haunted House sounds right up my alley. I'm not sure if I could bring myself to read My Stroke of Insight, my dad suffer a minor one few years back and the left side of his body was paralyzed for a long time. It took lots of therapy for him to get back normal, it was one of the worst day of my life... :-/

  22. Buying your books second hand on Amazon is such a good idea, I should suggest that to my brother and he reads a lot and subsequently spends a lot! These books sound great, however I spend more time writing than reading these days - perhaps I should change that? :)

  28. It sounds like you love books JUST as much as I do. How comforting this is to know ;) Where do you live that doesn't offer second hand stores? How do you find books? I love how open minded you are! I have a few suggestions for you: 1) The Tender Bar, 2) Cat's Cradle (not my favorite - very existential), 3) THRIVE by Ariana Huffington of the Huffington Post. Let me know what you think if you decide to indulge!

Have I told you lately how much I enjoy the layout of your blog? It's so clean/easy to read and otherwise great. The photo of you and your husband i absolutely precious. Love this place hope to visit someday!!
