5 Reasons to Motivate You to Exercise

Hello My Loves

As you all know, I enjoy living a fit and healthy life.  I really got into fitness about 2 years ago after my doctor informed me I had high cholesterol (due to my love of sugary treats).  You can read more about that in my previous post here.  After really upping my fitness level, I have enjoyed so many benefits from my body being in better shape.

I know how hard it is to get motivated and get started with fitness. If you have had a long day at work or college, the last thing you probably feel like doing is getting off the couch and exercising.
So I give you 5 reasons of how having a higher fitness level has changed my life for the better as a little motivation to you when you need it:

1. Mental Health

Working out clears all the 'cobwebs' from my mind.  If I go to the gym or for a run when I am in a bad mood or stressed, I am a much happier person after my training session.  Endorphin's are chemicals released by your body when you exercise.   They naturally release stress in the body and make you feel happy. Picking up a glass of wine or a slice of cake might temporarily make you feel better but the false sugar high or the hangover will soon have you feeling worse than when you started.  Exercising is a really healthy way to release stress and help with depression and mental health.

2. Life Motivation

I find myself way  more motivated after working out to tackle any other aspects of my life that need attention. Whether it be focusing on career or study or travel, whatever it may be, I find after a good workout session, I feel up to making a plan on how to deal with issues I  normally put off to the last minute.  Procrastination be gone!

3. Loving Myself

Exercising and eating healthy are a form of loving oneself.  Its me saying to my body and mind, I love you enough to put some effort into keeping you happy and healthy.  Since I upped my exercise game, I find myself really being a lot nicer to myself. We are our own worst critics and can be so hard on ourselves.  I find I am kinder to myself and know I am doing my best.  I encourage me a bit more!

4. Healthier Eating

I find that working out and eating healthy are linked hand in hand. There is no point in me coming home from a good gym workout to eat a pizza and cake every time.  (It is done the odd time though!) After a good training session, I crave cold water and good clean food like fruit, vegetables or fish. There are tons of recipes for healthy snacks on the internet for the days when you crave something a bit sweeter but without all the sugar and bad ingredients.  Some ideas are here.

5. Better Skin, Nails and Hair

(picture of my hair at my wedding trial)

If for none of the reasons above, but for vanity alone, I find that my appearance has been vastly improved by exercising.  Hormonal spots that used appear every month are long gone, my hair is stronger and shinier and my nails are less likely to break.  There is a glow off my skin from all the water that I drink and a natural colour to my cheeks from working out.  So many of my friends and family commented on the difference.  I often don't even wear foundation because I don't need to, my skin is naturally good from my work out regime.

I hope this tips have helped motivate you to work out if you need some! Have you any tips for me?

Love Mini

  14. If not for health benefits, then for vanity:):) I loved that last one...but in all seriousness, I do think some type of physical acitivity is good for everyone.

Naturally, it will depend on a person. For some people, a bit of streching can do wonders, for others just running for 10 minutes...we don't need all run a marathon, but we should make working out a part of our lives.

    1. Thanks Ivana! I totally agree with you, everyone should work out at their own pace. For some like you say, some gentle yoga can be amazing or a short walk. Instead of comparing ourselves to others, just doing a little each day can make a big difference. Have a great day X

  15. These are all such great reasons to get moving and exercise. I always feel as if I have better energy when I am exercising regularly.

Oh yes I have watched the Bill Cunningham doc and it was really fantastic. Every so often I spot him at work on the streets of NY and it's always a treat :)

  22. That last one is spot on. There is definitely a certain glow of health that comes through in your skin from being healthy, both inside and out. I know that's kinda vain but still. Also the mental health part. Exercise gives me the time to process all those thoughts and get some clarity. These are some great reminders. Thanks

  28. I agree with all of these points, especially that I feel pleased that I worked out and more motivated to take on my day. However, with all of these great reasons, my mind is still like mush when it comes to getting to the gym, especially when it's been a while since I've gone. What works best is if I've been on a streak going. Then I don't break it. When I lose the routine, like if I go on vacation, that's when getting back into it is the toughest. Any tips for that?

    1. Hi Yasmin, you are obviously great for working out and a motivated person already! Its hard if we go on vacation or break our routine as you say to get back into that zone of going to the gym. I have a personal trainer when I go to the gym, so if I am paying someone that motivates me to go. Also, when I was told I had high cholesterol it scared me. I am young and slim and you would never have thought I was at risk of heart disease but its genetic. The thoughts of having heart disease scared me into motivating me. I want to keep my body working well internally and I find that huge. I hope this helps? X

  29. Omg, thank you so much! I feel like I'm such a surrender when it comes to excercising and believe me, I'm not proud of that. I loved reading this motivations because I'm truly tempted to resume my excercising routine once and for all and they came in the perfect moment. I admire people like you who have that determination! In that, I fail miserably. I promise I'll keep in mind your motivations when I feel I'm about to give up! :(
Oh!! I almost forgot, I've nominated you for a Blogger Recognition Award! I hope you like it!
